Occupational therapy (OT) for children focuses on helping young people develop the skills they need to participate confidently in everyday activities — at home, at school, and in the community.
For children with developmental differences and conditions (such as autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, developmental delay, and regulation challenges), occupational therapists provide assessment, treatment, and support in areas such as fine and gross motor development, attention, social interactions, emotional regulation, self-care, and sensory processing.
Therapy often involves play-based activities, environmental modifications, and collaboration with families, educators, and other health professionals. By empowering both the child and their support network with practical strategies, occupational therapists help children develop confidence, resilience, and the skills they need to thrive.
Common reasons we see kids
Autism Spectrum Disorder
Building skills in communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, sensory processing, independence, and daily living tasks.
ADHD & Attention/Concentration
Developing attention, organisation, and executive functioning skills, while supporting learning, emotional regulation, social participation, and self-esteem.
Emotional Regulation & Sensory Processing
Understanding and managing emotions, responding to sensory input, and improving participation in everyday activities.
Physical Skills
Enhancing fine motor skills (e.g. handwriting, cutting, using cutlery) and gross motor skills (e.g. bike riding, swimming, sports) to support confidence and participation.
Learning & School Participation
Supporting engagement in classroom activities such as group work, transitions, independent tasks, and written work.
Self-Care & Daily Living Skills
Building independence in everyday routines, including dressing, feeding, toileting, sleep, and morning/night routines.
Social Skills
Developing meaningful relationships, improving communication, and building confidence in social situations with peers and family.
General Development & Behaviour
Helping families understand their child's strengths and challenges, while providing practical strategies to support development, behaviour, and participation in everyday life.
